Maa, I ain’t able to remember you today.

Today, Maa, my mind can’t think

Of you and your glories.

Maa, my eyes ain’t reeking with tears

And my cheeks are all dry

Like a cracked riverbed, a barren land

And my heart is like a dead fish-

Lifeless! No mirth, no glory

Though my lips have uttered your name

But Maa, this voice has no devotion today.

This mind misses you, Maa,

This heart wants the Divine again;

Your glance and your smile,

Your voice and the folds of your sari,

Your beautiful soft feet and the shades of red;

Maa, this being misses you!

Here Maa, look! I am your daughter

A distraught drunkard with an empty bottle,

A thirsty fool, for your rasa Oh Maa,

While I take your name again and again

But Devotion has left me here- barren!

Come back, Oh Maa, in the cushion of my heart

Or to the lotus of my head

Make me cry again for you

Make me love you more and more.

I am feeling alone within myself,

Just come back, Oh Mother! Let me be your eternal abode

And may you be felt yet again!

Narayani-Namostute!

Maa Sharada and Mahadevi (Bala-swaroopa)
