A 36-year-old woman, Bhanu was returning from the temple to her house. She saw a holy man in front of the door.

Bhanu offered her obeisances and invited the holy man for lunch to serve him so he would bless her family.

Come inside the house, I have food already prepared”. Bhanu insisted.

Daily she would go to the temple and feed a cow that would come to her door.

Every day I feed a cow so that I can get rid of my past life sins”. She said while he was still eating.

For the last 2 days, I haven’t seen her”. She mumbled.

The holy man looked at her and smiled.

Great food! I’m happy”. Said the holy man.

Holy man will you now please bless my family”? She asked.

I’m pleased with you O lady. I’ll bless your house”. The holy man said.

Just wait…I have something for you”. The holy man pulled out a weed grass from his bag.

Keep this dry weed grass as a blessing from me. You should distribute it to your family members”.

Little acts of kindness like these bring me blessings from the lord”. He said.

My children will fall sick after eating this. Have I done something wrong? Neither is this act of kindness nor a blessing. Forgive me for my mistakes”. Bhanu pleaded.

O lady you always feed the cow that came to your door, leftover stale food, sometimes even moldy pieces of bread, and expected to receive blessings. That cow is a living being. Her body needs good food and nourishment”.

Please forgive me O holy man. I promise to feed all other living forms that which is best for their body”. She pleaded.

Bhanu was then forgiven by the holy man. She took care of the cow to atone for her mistakes.
