Jai Sri Hari!
I never thought I would write here. But Swamiji’s and God’s grace has made me to write, to express our gratitude and share how beautifully they have helped us – in a way that we could not imagine!
My name is Sriram and I have been following Swamiji for 4 years. Heard his talks on youtube, read couple of books, attended two in-person meditation events and came to ashram once. Except that there’s nothing else I have done, neither any seva nor any sadhana.
On Sep 24th 2020 the evening of his 26th birthday, my wife’s younger brother (Srikanth) met with a minor bike accident. A stray dog came in the way and he fell from his bike. He had a minor head injury and nothing else major. But after 2 days of normal day-to-day activities, he went into coma. Doctors declared him brain dead and put him on an artificial ventilator in an ICU. They said nothing can be done medically and only God’s grace can save him.
This was a shock to the family. His parents, grandparents, uncles and cousins have done all they could, both medically and spiritually. Theirs is a family of doctors and they had doctors from all over examine his reports but nothing could be done. So they turned their hopes to God and did whatever they could. Some did yagna, some japa, some pujas, some went asking for blessings, etc Naturally they were so desperate and they went to a Buddhist monastery as well or whatever anyone said to do.
This went on for 20 odd days. And doctors kept insisting that there’s no chance and we better remove the artificial life support. It was a nightmare to the parents – not knowing whether to take off the artificial support or keep waiting with the hope that their 26 year old son will come back.
I was reluctant to ask for Swamiji’s blessings for many days, knowing it’s not proper to ask for material difficulties and there’ll be hundreds of requests to Swamiji like this. Also I didn’t want to bother Swamiji. Also, it felt shameful to ask as I don’t have much relationship with Swamiji. I was also scared to ask. It was a mix of feelings. But looking at the parent’s situation, finally I couldn’t help but ask and sent an email to the ashram to see if there’s any chance we can get Swamiji’s blessings for the boy.
Few days later, we got a reply saying that Swamiji has sent His blessings!
I’m not fortunate yet to solely rely my faith upon one. I follow couple of other saints as well and tried to get their blessings also. One of those great saints gave us a Mrityumjaya mantra and asked us to do a purascharana of that. We started doing that as well.
Meanwhile as days passed, some of Srikanth’s organs started failing. Intestines were no longer digesting and eyes were spoiled. With a heavy heart, parents had to come to terms with the idea that their son can no longer come back. And they decided to let go and take away the life support.
This is when the grace and blessings of Swamiji, all the saints and pujas started to manifest! No, Srikanth didn’t come back to life. He passed away on the day before Vijaya Dashami. Even the intention of our prayers were to bring him back to life. But God has other plans – beautiful in their own way!
Before taking away the life support, Srikanth’s mother visited a temple and were sitting in their home’s puja room. From nowhere she had this desire to donate her son’s organs to people in need. But the doctors said the organs can’t be transplanted as Srikanth is brain dead for almost 20 days and they started dysfunctioning.
But Srikanth’s father took this to his heart. He did a great thing. Since there are no organ transplant facilities available in their town, his father and family drove him all the way to Hyderabad (450km away with 10 hours drive), stayed there for 4 days, made the donations and drove back again with the body. Donating organs in the same hospital the patient is in or nearby is one thing. But it’s a huge thing for a father to drive around 450km up-and-down with his dying son and with all the pain, just to help others!
The heart was immediately transplanted to another 25 year old in need. Kidneys were transplanted to two persons (one of them in 20s) and liver to another. So four people in need were saved! The heart was transported over 6kms in less than 5 minutes from one hospital to another. Hyderabad traffic police specially created a green channel (road without traffic) to transport the live heart as quickly as possible to the patient in need. Video below.
Srikanth passed away on the auspicious day before Vijaya Dashami – as a hero saving four other lives!! And he brought joy to their families. And his parents, they stood as a tall inspiration to many others.
Indeed this news has become viral in the local area and many people appreciated it. Lots of new papers and news channels covered it. Few pics below.
And none of this was planned. It all happened by grace. We expected our prayers to bring him back to life. But destiny is what it is. Although it couldn’t be changed, Swamiji’s blessings helped us ease the pain and cross over it easily!
In this regard, this experience reminded of what dear Lord Krishna says. (I’m not well versed. I heard these in a Harikatha class, searched online and pasting here).
Bhagavad Gita 7.14
daivī hy eṣā guṇa-mayī
mama māyā duratyayā
mām eva ye prapadyante
māyām etāṁ taranti te
My divine energy Maya, consisting of the three modes of material nature, is very difficult to overcome. But those who have surrendered unto Me can easily cross beyond it.
Also, Srimad Bhagavatham 10.14.58
samāśritā ye pada-pallava-plavaṁ
mahat-padaṁ puṇya-yaśo murāreḥ
bhavāmbudhir vatsa-padaṁ paraṁ padaṁ
padaṁ padaṁ yad vipadāṁ na teṣām
For those who have accepted the boat of the lotus feet of Murāri, the huge ocean of material miseries where there is danger at every step, reduces to that contained in a calf’s hoof-print.
If not for this organ donation, it would have been very hard for the parents to cope up in the end. It’s prayers answered in an unimagined way! Hopefully this big heart and good deed of his parents will bring them out of grief soon.
Thanks a ton and gratitude to Swamiji! Without whose grace this wouldn’t have ended in such a glorious way!
P.S : Sorry for the long post. But I thought only a detailed description of the situation can do justice to the grace received!
