Terms of use
The understanding between us.
Last updated April 20, 2026
The short version
Reading os.me is free for anyone. The Privilege Pass exists for one reason — to read and write comments. Be kind in the comments room. We can suspend accounts that aren’t kind.
Reading the site
Every essay, every reflection, every book extract on os.me is free to read. You don’t need an account, you don’t need a credit card, and you can leave whenever you like. By reading, you accept that the writing is the personal opinion of the author and is shared in good faith but without warranty of any kind.
Your account
An os.me account exists to attach a Privilege Pass to a person. That’s its only job. By creating one you confirm:
- You’re at least 13 years old.
- The information you give us is truthful.
- You’re responsible for keeping your password safe and for what happens under your account.
- You’ll let us know if you suspect someone else has accessed it.
You can close your account at any time by writing to us@os.me from the registered address.
The Privilege Pass
Two passes are sold today: Annual (12 months, charged yearly) and Lifetime(one-time payment). Both unlock the same thing — the comments room. Reading the site does not require either one and never will.
Pricing and currency
Indian customers are billed in INR via Razorpay; the displayed amount is inclusive of 18% GST. Customers outside India are billed in USD via Stripe. Pricing may change in future; existing Lifetime holders are not affected, and existing Annual holders keep the price they signed up at for the duration of their current term.
Renewals
Annual passes auto-renew on the anniversary of purchase. You can cancel renewal anytime — the pass remains active until the current period ends, then quietly stops. We don’t bury the cancel button.
Refunds
If you change your mind within 7 days of an Annual purchase, or within 14 days of a Lifetime purchase, write to us@os.meand we’ll refund you in full. Beyond that window, we don’t issue refunds for unused time, but we’ll always cancel auto-renewal for Annual passes immediately on request.
The comments room
The comments space is small on purpose. To keep it useful for everyone, comments must:
- Be related to the writing they sit under.
- Not attack any person, group, or faith.
- Not advertise anything, link to anything spammy, or promote products.
- Not contain personal information that isn’t yours to share.
- Not include content that is illegal where you live.
We can hide, edit, or remove comments that don’t fit. We can also suspend or close accounts that consistently break these rules. We try to be charitable; please assume good faith with other readers and we’ll do the same with you.
What you write, who owns it
The writings on os.me — essays, reflections, book extracts — belong to their author and are shared with you for personal reading. You can quote them, share links to them, and recommend them freely. You can’t republish them in full without written permission.
Comments you post stay yours. By posting, you grant os.me a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display them on the site, alongside the writing they reply to. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your comments unless you ask us to keep them visible (some readers want their words to stay).
What we don’t promise
We try hard to keep os.me available, accurate, and free of errors. We can’t promise you it will always be there or always be right. The site is provided “as is.” To the maximum extent allowed by law, os.me and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site.
When we can suspend or close your account
We’ll do this when:
- You’ve broken these terms in a serious or repeated way.
- You’ve created an account on someone else’s behalf without permission.
- Your account is used for fraudulent payments.
- A court or law forces us to.
If we close a paid account for any reason that isn’t your own behaviour, we’ll refund the unused portion.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of California, USA. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California.
Changes to these terms
We’ll bump the “last updated” date when we change anything here. Significant changes (price, refund policy, anything that affects your account meaningfully) will be emailed to all account holders at least 30 days before they take effect.
