I had written the first few paras of this during the start of the second wave when I lost a few very dear friends very quickly .And yet in interactions with a number of friends and colleagues a lot of what I heard was criticism , helplessness and constant cribs .

I soon figured gossip and endless cribbing never ever brought any happiness or joy . They infact clouded the mind more and bred more helplessness and negativity . Instead of waiting for the pandemic to be over and keeping my own head buried in the sand – I got involved with a few active volunteering efforts – and the amount of purpose and meaning it brought to me was indescribable.

I asked myself why is it that so many of us with very comfortable lives  limit ourselves to just cribbing whereas a lot of very common and ordinary people go out and devote everything they have ?  Whats the least one  can do ? In these gloomy and dark times atleast  bring a smile to those around you? A small act of kindness can go a  very long way …and sometimes  beyond our imagination .

A quote from George Bernard Shaw (Upaya Zen Center newsletter):

“this is the true joy in life: being used for a purpose, recognized by yourself as a mighty one: being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown out on the scrap heap. Being a force of nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy”
