In the early hours of the morning, the mother is sending the frail girl out in the woods to fetch water from the well. She hands her a big bucket, which she can hardly pick up and walk in a straight line. The woman, with rolls in her hair to make her lustre less locks look curly and fresh, has just risen from bed and is tying her nightgown around her waist, while giving a stern look at Cinderella and giving her tasks after task to finish while she gets ready for the day. Off the little Cinderella runs while balancing the bucket on her head and holding her frock while she paces.

Singing the opera loudly, Cinderella’s step mom checks on her own daughters. They are fast asleep and she sends a few flying kisses at them while closing the door behind her quietly and taking feather steps while leaving the princess cottage. She then starts singing a love serenade while she catches a glimpse of her husband, preparing to leave for an engagement out of the town. He gives her a peck on the cheek and wishes her a lovely morning. Before he can ask about Cinderella, she quips that the girls are out in the garden plucking fresh lilies and green apples for the supper. He nods and goes off to his duties.

She is now grinning, while she peeps outside her bedroom window narrowing her vision to spot Cinderella near the well. She wondered what is taking her so long to fetch just a bucket full of water. She turns to her maids and instructs them to prepare orange marmalade with a fresh loaf of bread for her daughters. One of the maids ask if she should make that for the 3 princesses? She angrily looks at her and shows raises only two fingers. The maid runs away.

Now, the stepmom goes to her vanity to get ready for the brunch where the prince and his parents are going to make a visit and spend some time with the girls, this brings a broad smile to her face and she starts humming again.
