Illusory is this beautiful creation and creatures all,
Know it, understand it with thy pure mind, O friend.
Says Naanak, it is not eternal, and it is going to end,
Truly its stability is as precarious as sand’s wall.
Guru Ji is referring to this creation as illusory because it is perpetually changing. Even from the experiences we obtain through a certain period of time, it assumes a new view: for instance, while we are children we believe that the sky is blue, but as we go to school then we learn that sky’s colour is celestial because of the sunlight’s reflection on the atmosphere, which scatters its light evenly everywhere around the earth during the day. This world, we or others will never stay in this world, because it is rule of this creation: whatever we see will vanish away, in a split second as we close our eyes forever. We must always remind ourselves that as a tower or wall made of sand on the beach, so is this world: it washed away easily by wave of death. All Salokas of Guru Ji are trying to imbue in our heart the concept of detachment, so that we freely live throughout our lives. Yes, we have worldly responsibilities, a free person of emotions (in the sense that person can choose which emotion to use) can accomplish them too but with love, and a servant of attachments and of emotions will do with grudges. This world is temporary, so why should we waste our energy in keeping alive grudges, let’s keep our mind clean with worship of Divine, and seeing the truth that lies beyond the space-time frame. That Divine is within you, is everywhere.
