Carvaka Indian materialism,
Carvaka is the word that generally stands for materialistic life.
But the meaning of the word is itself is a mystery. He was a sage. Carvaka means ‘charv’ means eat, chew or because his words are pleasant and ‘vak’ means words. So nice words Carvaka. It is regarded as Brihaspati son of ‘Loka’ was the founder of a materialistic view.
Carvaka famous word is “eat drink and be merry”๐Ÿคฃand his philosophy is known as lokayatika (lokayatamata)

Some theory of how we perceive our knowledge in eyes of carvaka:

Carvaka never believes in inference. He says inference can not be regarded as a valid source of knowledge. For example, until and unless a person sees a real fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ on the mountain he will not believe it by just seeing fumes or smoke.

He says sometimes out of nowhere our inference come true and we say yeah! how enlightened I am. But sometimes error too.๐Ÿ™ƒ

Carvaka used to say the testimony is not the real safe source of knowledge. For example – someone is just coming from that burning hill and said oh! Man run there is ๐ŸŒ‹ a volcano just erupted, person will say I didn’t believe in your testimony. Until I see with my eyes.๐Ÿคฃย

Here is carvaka only believe in the authority of perception. No inference, No testimony. (Dikhao to Manu๐Ÿ˜œ)

Carvaka said the world is made of only four elements – ap (water), Vayu( Air), Agni(Fire) and ksiti (earth). He rejected one of the panchmahabhut ‘Akasha’Ether,ย  Why not, he believes in only perception right. He can’t believe what he can’t see.

6: Carvaka never believe in Soul, he said what people mean by a soul is nothing more than this conscious living body. Why not he can’t see the soul with perception. (open eyes)

7: Carvaka said there is no God. We can not perceive God so no better than the soul.

Carvaka ethics is ‘ loving this life and enjoying its pleasure’. This is the highest goal he said. This view is by-products of his materialism metaphysics.

So what’s the use of knowing such a view which are now not fit my understanding.
Well, His views are important to understanding other Indian philosophy.

And there is always something to learn from something and that something is not to forget to live life. Well I am not saying ” Eat, Drink and be Merry”๐Ÿ˜‚
I love only first that is to eat. However with Mindfulness.๐Ÿ˜‡

Hope you like it. I did try to make it funny while delivering his word. Otherwise, it is will be just philosophy and now fun. Once in my life, I even thought he was correct. I stop believing everything. As Swamiji said Every Aastik is Nastik for a while. I was once.

I did not find a proper image for the post๐Ÿ˜„ so trees and forests are always helpful. If you want Further philosophy I can write, the next philosophy ‘Budhha’, one whose’s words planted a seed in me for a change.

Jai Sri Hari๐Ÿ’ฎ๐ŸŒธ

All glories to Maa and Beloved Swamiji.
