Research shows that relationships facing arguments for more than 20 percent of the time are probably not going to survive. While conflicts are inevitable, arguments are optional.
Holding grudges isn’t an option either. So, is there an alternative to handle disputes? Yes, discussions. Amicable ones. In which we make conscious efforts to keep our voice low and avoid abuse.
If we say what we say in a softer tone, most problems get solved reasonably peacefully. And abuse includes all types of violence — verbal, slamming doors, breaking things, and so on. If arguments escalate to this point, it makes sense to remove yourself from there physically.
It’s okay to feel anger, but venting it out is an art that takes effort. It requires building mindfulness through meditation or meditative activities.
