I saw this video on Instagram a few days back. I was feeling broken when I saw that. I was crying, and the screaming of two little girls was ringing in my ears.

So here is a story of a Mandeep Kaur living in the US with her husband and two little daughters. Her husband used to hit her daily. She was tolerating domestic violence for so long. She was just 30 years old, and she took her life. She showed some courage, and before committing suicide, she posted this video on social media, which went viral.

She had the courage, and she did this. But she was not brave enough. She could have saved her life. Now in this world, two more daughters will be surviving without a mother, which is painful. Do you know what’s more painful?

Unspoken stories of domestic violence.

I  grown up with that pain and trauma. I wish she could have taken the help of the police instead of killing herself. I cannot blame her for this. She was scared. She wanted to save her daughters. Domestic violence is still happening, and that is happening daily. The meaning of domestic violence does not only mean men are hurting their wives physically but mentally too.  We need to talk about this more and create awareness. We cannot afford to die women like this anymore. We need to help. When you hear a story like this, please share.

I watched Darlings movie last night, and there was a conversation between a police constable and an actress in a film.

Why do men turn into such monsters when drunk?

He answered: Because women let them.

That’s a fact. We all speak about creating boundaries in a relationship, then why not in a marriage?  Women need to show courage in the very first violent action. That’s why being financially independent is important. Most women tolerate all this just because they are dependent on men and their kids too but remember one thing at that time: your kids are growing up with lifelong trauma. Rest,  Mandeep Kaur’s story says everything, and trust me, many are just hiding.

So, Be brave. You have a life to live. Be an example for other women; give them courage.

Keep smiling,

Thank you,

Riya Om
